Ashok Sharma Replaces Injured Yudhvir Singh in India A Squad for Sri Lanka Tri-Series
Ashok Sharma has been added to the India A squad for the ongoing Sri Lanka tri-series after Yudhvir Singh suffered a right rotator cuff injury. The Gujarat Titans pacer, known for his 154.2 kph delivery in IPL 2026, replaces the injured bowler as India A look to revive their campaign after two defeats in three matches.
Ashok Sharma attracted attention during IPL 2026 after delivering one of the tournament's fastest balls at 154.2 kilometres per hour. Representing Gujarat Titans, he claimed six wickets in six matches. Although he proved expensive with an economy rate of 10.85, his pace and ability to trouble batters earned recognition from the national selectors.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed the squad change in an official statement. According to the board, Yudhvir Singh experienced discomfort in his right shoulder while bowling on June 13. He had also reported similar pain during a fielding session on June 11.
Following a medical assessment and consultation with a specialist, the Board of Control for Cricket in India Medical Team recommended that Yudhvir undergo a graduated rehabilitation programme under the supervision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India Centre of Excellence. Medical experts diagnosed a right rotator cuff injury, requiring a structured recovery process before he can return to competitive cricket.
In its statement, the board said the Men's Selection Committee had named Ashok Sharma as Yudhvir Singh's replacement for the ongoing tri-series in Sri Lanka. The statement further noted that the rehabilitation programme is aimed at ensuring a complete recovery from the shoulder injury.
India A have endured a challenging campaign in the Dambulla tri-series so far. The team has lost two of its three matches, including a dramatic Super Over defeat against host Sri Lanka on Monday. India A will now face Afghanistan A in their final league-stage match on Wednesday before the tournament concludes with the final on Sunday.
The updated India A squad for the tri-series comprises Tilak Varma as captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad as vice-captain, Priyansh Arya, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ayush Badoni, Nishant Sindhu, Suryansh Shedge, Prabhsimran Singh, Kumar Kushagra, Vipraj Nigam, Yash Thakur, Anshul Kamboj, Arshad Khan, Anukul Roy and Ashok Sharma.
Ashok Sharma's inclusion provides India A with an additional pace option at a crucial stage of the competition, while Yudhvir Singh's absence represents a setback for the side as it seeks to recover from a difficult start and secure a place in the tournament final.
